Wellbeing Economy

A Wellbeing Economy is an economy designed to put people and planet at the centre.

What is a Wellbeing Economy?

A wellbeing economy is about moving ‘beyond GDP’ to measure instead what supports people, places and the planet to truly thrive now and in the future. It is about rewiring our economy towards the delivery of equitable and sustainable wellbeing at every level, including democratic, social, economic and environmental wellbeing.

The delivery of a wellbeing economy is made possible by the key ingredients that allow communities to flourish and underpins many of the cross-cutting policy areas we are working to influence. This includes reinvestment into the local community and a governance system that gives people a voice and promotes equity and human rights for all.

Our priorities are to:

1.

work with members and partners to strengthen the need for progress on the Wellbeing and Sustainable Development Bill

2.

support the measurement and evidence of a wellbeing economy

3.

advocate for, and highlight, the importance of a wellbeing economy

Why is it one of our priorities?

Wellbeing and sustainable development are at the heart of the work of our networks and their members.  We welcomed the opportunity to respond to the consultation on a proposed Wellbeing and Sustainable Development Bill and its aim “to ensure that all policy and delivery is focused on increasing the wellbeing of people living in Scotland, both now and in the future”.
